Valle Maira is one of the most popular valleys of Cuneo thanks to the sheer beauty and variety of its landscapes. It borders Valle Varaita in the north, Valle Stura and Valle Grana in the south, and France in the west. Valle Maira is a favorite destination for European tourists, especially German, Swiss and Austrian, who appreciate it for its authenticity and for being peaceful and uncongested, a rare thing nowadays in the Alps. It offers twenty-four summits above 3000 m with trekking and climbing options for every level hiker and climber. Additionally, there are virtually infinite ski mountaineering and snowshoeing routes to be explored. The head of the valley is the Brec de Chambeyron (3,389 m), the highest summit in Valle Maira. There are many bivouacs located in strategic places of the trails. The lower area of Valle Maira is also really beautiful and worth visiting, thanks to the numerous and well preserved hamlets. The wildlife of this valley is typical of the Alps, with common sightings of ibexes, chamoises, ermines, eagles and griffons.
