Hiking in Varaita Valley

Competing with Valle Maira for the plentitude of summits above 3000 m, it borders Valle Po to the north, Valle Maira to the south, while the western head of the valley is defined by mount Mongioia (3340 m), mount Salza (3326 m), and Roc De La Niera (3177 m). The western side of Valle Varaita is fragmented in many lateral valleys and gorges, covered by a host of wonderful alpine lakes, dominated by the omnipresent mount Monviso. The upper valley hamlets have preserved their original structure and charm: make sure you go see Chianale, it is one of Italy’s nicest hamlets.
